A power outage struck parts of the Southside for 45 minutes this morning, affecting about 4,600 customers.

An equipment failure at a substation, 343 W. Wisconsin St., caused the outage at 10:15 a.m., spokeswoman Crystal Livers-Powers said.
Affected customers were scattered in the area from Washington Street to Interstate 465 and from Emerson Avenue to Lynhurst Drive.

“We were able to transfer the affected customers to the substation’s working unit,” Livers-Powers said.

IPL restored power by 11 a.m., Livers-Powers said. The utility was investigating the cause of the substation malfunction.
